Overview

Background

The first year of the STP is often tough. It’s not uncommon to face imposter syndrome, difficulties balancing a varied workload, or uncertainties with how to complete your portfolio. You might also be adapting to a new work environment, be the only trainee in your team, or it might be your Training Officer’s first time supporting a trainee. The Buddy Scheme offers vital support for first year trainees as they navigate these challenges.

The Buddy Scheme offers Trainees:

  • A friendly face and point of contact
  • Support for introduction to the STP
  • Assistance with understanding the requirements of the STP
  • Help preparing for progression through the STP
  • Signposting to relevant support
  • Networking and connections

If you are a 2nd or 3rd year STP trainee or STP alumni, the Buddy Scheme is an excellent opportunity to:

  • Advance mentorship skills
  • Build your CV with hands-on experience relevant to leadership
  • Earn a Certificate of Completion which makes great evidence for your portfolio
  • ‘Pay it forward’ by helping others with your wealth of experience and knowledge
  • Expand your network by connecting with future Clinical Scientists

The Buddy Scheme Recruitment Cycle

The Buddy Scheme recruitment schedule coincides with the academic year. The STP Induction (September) will signpost incoming Trainees to sign up for the Buddy Scheme. Buddies are also invited to volunteer during this period. The Buddy Pairings are released by early October. Please join the London Healthcare Science Trainee Network Mailing List, with your work email, to be the first to know about the next recruitment cycle.

Sign Up for the Buddy Scheme
